I want to buy a 1973 CJ5 from a friend in Georgia. Titles aren't required there, at least for vehicles greater than x years old, and he doesn't have one for this Jeep. He has a bill of sale from the previous owner to him, and has since registered the vehicle. I know how much of a pain in the arse North Carolina is with titling stuff. Is there a way to make this work? I searched the archives here and this is all I found about Georgia, from an older post. Thanks.

"...for instance did you know that in Georgia they dont even use titles? If you were to happen to buy a vehicle in Georgia you would arrive in NC with a bill of sale and a signed registration from the PO from GA. NC would then register the vehicle in your name and your title appears in a couple weeks. It's even easer to register one in Georgia."

First thing i'd call and speak with some one at the main office up in raleigh. Souldnt be a problem if you have bill of sale. Im sure they will do a vin verification like they done with me when I went through my mess. Hopefully it sould be simpler then what i went through.

Thanks. I tried yesterday but I'll call again, maybe I can get someone more helpful.

Is your avatar Popcorn Sutton? I'm a fan of his, he was a really interesting character.

yeah I called while I was at work, I put the phone on speaker phone and laid it down. I ended up bein on hold all most an hour. The I got some chick that didnt speak good english.

and yeah its popcorn

I had to provide a bill of sale & current (or at least very recent) GA registration from the previous owner....no problem getting the title in NC.

Good feedback. Doc, that's especially good to hear, since it sounds like you went through the exact scenario that I am looking at. I think I am comfortable enough to pull the trigger on buying this project. It is a fair deal and from a friend that I trust. It sounds like I'll be able to get the titling/registration worked out one way or another.

The only thing that may be a problem, is the new inspection/tag scenario.

I know 35-years & older=no inspection, but I heard you needed to get the out of state vehicles "looked" at first before title/tags were issued. No verification on my end.
