Buying used utv/sxs

From what I understand a utv doesn't have a title? When buying a used one how do you go about covering yourself legally?

Same way you buy a tractor or four wheeler. Just draw up a bill of sale and have the seller sign it. If you want to be super cautious have it signed in front of a no tory and let them stamp it.
 
Or just buy it. If you can't prove it was yours, they can't prove it was theirs, right? A chain of texts or emails should be pretty good evidence of transaction.
 
So I picked this up today from tenn. It came with a title. Can I take it to the DMV? Do I just keep it?

You just keep it. NC doesn't recognize titles for fourwheelers or side by sides.
 
Don't tell the gubmint you have it! If they find out, they'll want you to pay THEM for YOU to own,use, and maintain it, while prohibiting you from driving on THEIR roads.

You better check the title and make sure it doesn't say "copy" on it.A lot of people will do a title loan and then go get another title and sell.They finally started putting "copy" on the titles and will not recognize the "copy" title,as the title.I believe they call it "theft by deception"
