I am going to go look at what is supposed to be a Caddy 500 engine.. however the guy told me it was a '79 model year. I didnt think they made 500's in '79 only the 425... is this true?? i have looked for info and the only way to tell is internally..does anyone know of any other way to distinguish the difference??

im not into the caddy stuff,i didnt think they made to 500 in 79,but the 472 i believe was available in 79.
mabey V8 PICKUP can school us on this subject,he built a 84 regal with a 472...WOW was it sick.

pm jrraw23 on here. Ricky has a Caddy motor in his Jeep and probably knows a lot about them.

When I lived in FL, bothe of those motors were popular motors in the airboats

I think 72ish was the last year(s) for the 472/500 and IIRC the casting # on the crank is the only true way to know if it's a 472 of a 500.

According to the Cad Company 500;s were built from 70 to 76. The block casting number for both 472 and 500 would end in 52xx or 62xx. Both engines look the same. Most 500 cranks have casting number ending in 93 or 94. Most 472 cranks had a casting number ending in 24. Their web site is at http://www.cad500parts.com/tech

cool.. thanks for the info.. i checked out cad500parts website and i am supposed to go look at it this evening so i will keep you all posted!!

The caddy 500's were only in eldorda's 472 were in all others and the years for the 500 and 472 were 68 to 76. The 79 was a 425 or a olds 350.
