looks like the wife and I will have a week alone while the kids are at the grand parents house. We camped at Freeman several times last year and we are thinking of a little tour in June. What other beach camping is available along he coast? I've done the search but am not clear on 4x4 access. Some seem to require fishing. If any one has a tip name the place and I will research it
Thanks

cape lookout, down at harkers island, you have to go about 15-20 miles past harkers to catch the vehicle ferry and its not one of those ferries that you ride back and forth every time you want to go to the mainland, once your on the island you dont leave till its time,it cost about 75.00 round trip for the ferry ride just for the vehicle, they offer ferries just to take people across
this is for the vehicle ferry

what you need to know about wilmywood, maybe i can help on that subject too

If your going to go to freeman and plan to have a fire on the beach, You will need to have a burn bucket. Like an old wash tub. You van get them at Lowes or same places for $15. Down there they are $30. They require them now because someone just covered their fire with sand without water, and the next day a girl stepped in it and burned her foot.

I think my girlfriend and i will be heading down there this weekend too. I went to Okracoke on Memorial Day weekend. Took the swan quarter ferry for $15. Its a 2 1/2 hour ride. Camped at the National park camp ground, $12. It has showers (cold as Alaskan river) and has bath rooms. You can walk over the dunes and have fires below the high tide line with no restrictions. Beach access for 4X4's are marked along hwy 12.

anybody know if theres anywhere to leave your truck overnight on the mainland at cape lookout? we were thinkin about a canoe camping trip on the island.

theres a hotel at the very end of HARKERS ISLAND named CALICO JACKS,they have a bunch of parking,go to the office and talk to them, they will probably let you park there, they also sell beer, ice and snacks at the little store
