Can I get my 98 chevy 305 to run on a carburetor?

Just wondering if I could use a motor out of a 98 chevy in a boat with a blown motor? not sure how much difference there is in a fuel injected motor to a carbed one.

an EFI 5.0 can be converted to run on carb but as mentioned it will require a special intake/

just out of curiousity why would you take the injection off?? i.e. what are you using the engine for.. what mods are you going to do to it other than make it carburated.. etc.

if that has a automatic tranny it's going to shift incorrectly without tps input and ect readings from the ecm. may need a custom ecm flash or convert to a stick shift.
edit, or put an earlier auto tranny in like a 700-r4 that uses a tvs cable to shift.

There IS a reverse rotation SBC for marine applications....well I guess just a different crank but not 100% on that

Fwiw, boats these days just use a reverser rather than a RR engine...and again that's only on twin engine Inboards and I/O's. The only difference in the RR engine is the cam and the distributor gear is "reverse cut".

I have done this before

What year is the engine that was in the boat?

What outdrive?

I had a 1979 Tahiti with 305 carb with a Mercrusier I/O

I put a 1989 350 that was in a TBI truck.

What a huge PITA!!!!

The crank bolts on the older engine were a different pattern so the old flywheel would not fit. so I got a manual fly wheel for the newer engine.

So since the coupler for the Outdrive bolted to the crank and the new style bolted to the fly wheel I had to get a new Coupler.

so then I when to install it in the boat.......

Much to my suprise the new fly wheel was a 15" and would not fit in the bell housing.

so I have to find a SBC 13" fly wheel. which I found came in a 1985 firebird.

now I had my new flywheel but the coupler would not fit my new flywheel :(

so I had to use one from a 3.0 I4 (AKA MG 153(mercruiser version))
