can i swap a 242 out of a 89 xj into my 94 zj

Only thing you should have to watch is Input Spline Count. I don't recall the break on when/which versions they changed it. Other than that, yes.

yea i have heard different things and i have the 249

Wish I could remember if you can swap the input from the 249 to the 242.... seems you can, but I honestly don't recall for certain. I know I looked at it when I had a 249.

242 is a little easier than the 231 swap. lots of good write ups on this all over the net. just search google and you should get tons of reading.
