I have hood clearance issues with my v8 swap i like where my engine is and i dont want to body lift. Can someone measure the hood height from the fender to the top middle at the front of the hood on a cj also the hood length from body to grill. The cj hood in pictures looks taller than a yj hood also how hard is it to swap in a hood and grill from a cj to a yj i wont be running fenders so no need to fit the cj fenders. If someone has the two hoods side by side to take a picture that would be nice too. It could all be an optical illusion there might not be enough difference to give me the clearance I need.

Charles, I do know, for years, guys have swapped CJ front clips, onto YJ s. And maybe just swapped the grill, for the round headlights. Far as I know, it's just a bolt on. Trying to sort out your questions, on my 79 CJ, the hood is 40" long. That includes about 1/8-1/4", the mid section sticks out farther than the sides. Over top of the grill, before the hood tapers down, I get 8 3/4" height, from the fender. At the mid-ish hood point, where the windshield tie down is, it's 9 1/4", from the fender. App. 1/4" gap, between the fender & hood, but I measured Up, from the fender. Hope that helps!

What engine are you trying to throw in there? I mounted my engine pretty darn high and it still clears the hood fine. What part is causing the interference? Pics help.

thanks I'll measure when I get back home to see the difference I'm running a ford 351 with that giant efi intake on it it hits up front on the throttlebody where the hood slopes down to the grill not much maybe an inch or two I'm not sure if I have a pic of it not clearing I'll look and see I found a comparison pic online and it looks like the front of the cj hood is taller the front is where I need the hood to be taller the rear clears fine

you can kinda see the issue here it clears without the throttle body it's just the very front that's the issue any ford guys out there know what all is involved in the gt40 intake swap? heres a pic with the hood down it's not far from closing

Ford 5.8L 351w EFI 1986-93 Qualifier Upper and Lower Intake Manifold Kit Satin you need one of these. This is what I had bought to fit a 5.8 in a bronco. In the end though I got a regular dual plane carbureted intake and Holley sniper EFI to get rid of the Ford speed density.

ok I'm probably gonna keep the oem fuel injection for now I like this intake and it's not as crazy expensive as some of the other options I've looked at did you have to run a different throttle body?

It uses a 5.0 style 70mm throttle body. This is pretty much a gt40 swap just cheaper and better.
thanks for this info I was wondering how I was gonna chop the hood and make a new intake that split into two parts to go through the throttle body this looks like its gonna solve a lot of my issues

Sounds like the manifold swap is the ticket. Looks like the CJ grill & hood, are taller. You said you didn't want a body lift. One of the first things I ever did on mine, to run 33s, was a 2" lift. When I replaced the springs, they have a 2 & 1/2 " lift, & stock height shackles. Only thing I did with the body lift, was extend the clutch linkage. When I added a fan shroud, I had to re-center/drop the radiator. Hard to tell there's any lift, & I clear 35s now. But, it's getting harder to lift my leg high enough to get in & out, now.
