My Dad is doing a ride to raise money for the American Diabetes Association. I know times are tough and we all have rigs that need or would like new goodies, but take a second to read this and decide if you can help. I really appreciate it!

I'm going to paste the email he sent below.

A message from Michael Hughes xxx@roadrunner.com.
I will be participating in a 2 day bike event on June 4 and 5 to raise money for the American Diabetes Association. I am asking for your help. Your gift will make a difference.
My first encounter to diabetes came over thirty years ago. My son was always thirsty, in and out all day long getting something to drink. He wet the bed every single night, think how that effects an eight year olds self esteem. We wouldn't let him drink anything after dinner to try to prevent the bed wetting. The doctor tested his urine for glucose and ketone, he was off the charts on both. Boy did we feel bad about our draconian method to prevent the bed wetting.
We spent a week in the hospital getting his blood sugar under control and learning how diabetes was going to change our lives. I learned how to test his urine for glucose and how to give him his insulin. We met a wonderful nurse by the name of Jean Kennedy who taught us how to manage the diabetes. All of the training material was published by, you guessed it, the American Diabetes Association, more specific the American Juvenile Diabetes Association.
Please help me raise both awareness and funds for the ADA so their assistance and training can benefit other eight year olds and their families, even $5.00 can help educate. Your gift no matter the size will help.
It's easy visit my personal page and read more about this cause, then donate on line.
Thank you so much for you help.
Michael

91 views and no replies. I'm a little shocked.

The ride is next weekend. I'm going to drive to Raleigh on Sunday and be there when my Dad crosses the finish line.

He's almost 63 and riding 100 miles in 2 days. I'm very proud of him and what's he's doing.

I wish him the best of luck..what he is doing is great. Are you the son that he is refering to in the story? You must be very proud of him.

Good luck!

I am his one and only son (and child). They either were too frightened to have more or got it right the first time. The answer depends on who you ask.

I think it is really neat. And I know someone else who would think so too.. I am working that day or would prolly drive over to check it out. I can forward your stuff to others though.

Thanks to those that contributed. He left this afternoon for the ride this weekend. He raised $1400.

Best of luck to him this weekend. wish i could of contributed but i still have bills that need paying, let alone spending anything on my rig!
