Thinking about getting rid of the Jeep.....I know...I know....

I have just lost interest in it and Its been about 2 years since its even seen any action on the trails.

Just thinking about what I could get if I sell it for around 4k or so.

We just bought my wife a new car back in march and we only live 2-3 miles from work and we could carpool to and from work for the time being until I found something.....

What could I scoop up for around 4k that would be fun to drive, reliable, and good on gas?

would really like something with a manual transmission.

This is all just hypothetical for now until I figure out if I want to get rid of it for sure or not.

For those requirements - Mazda protege5 or Mazda3 (M3 may be hard for 4k).
5 speed is a must.
Masdaspeed is fun but worse MPG.

Get lucky and find a Tacoma. You'll miss having 4x4 very quickly.

This is what I am afraid of........Maybe I will just suck it up and fix it little by little and just deal with it. I do love it...but it just pisses me off :)
I've been there and done that! lol You never have a clue how handy it comes in until you don't have it.

youll be more pissed off working on a fwd car then your jeep.

if your jeep is a 84-96 look into doing a interior swap from a 97+

makes it alot more comfortable to me

front clip swap makes them look better as well

Mazdaspeed is coming once we pay the wife's car off. Love those speeds!!!
You should be able to pick up an 02 map for 4k if you dig around... Don't wait until you're old and have kids lol

I just picked up a WJ for very little so I can drive something besides a lifted and locked jeep as dd. While it may not be a fun 5 speed it is very low riding for a jeep and extremely comfortable. Plus have 4wd capabilities for when the pavement gets slippery. It has been a great transition but I would hate going cold turkey to not having my "capable" jeep will in the driveway. It feels great having the option if the two. I don't think having a street able fun car would feel as good if I sold my cherokee offroad jeep. Just giving my perspective because there was a point to when I thought my rough riding jeep was starting to become old news.

If your worried about the loss of 4x4, but want something more fun for the street, I had a blast with the ZJ Limited 5.9 that I had for a while.

And its less than 4K

Been there...done this. I have vehicle ADD. Keep your Jeep. Do some minor upgrades to make it feel new again and keep on rockin. It took me 6 vehicles between my original 3rd Gen 4Runner and the one I have now to make me realize that versatility goes a long way. On and off road and on the wallet.

Out of 22 cars/trucks/SUVs I've owned in the last ten years I will say that the ones I miss the most were my Toyotas. 4x4, 20+ mpg, stupid easy to work on and the icon of versatility. I've grown to despise Cherokees and every other jeep known to man. Sucky gas mileage, constant maintenance, overheating overall headache. Toyotas are my favorite vehicles ever made. My old 95 taco (3rz, 5 speed, 4x4,33s, 26 mpg) I'd give my left foot to own again. Sadly that's about what it takes to buy a low mileage one on a budget.

I can hook you up with a 4x4 Subaru for less than $4K.

I also have vehicle ADD. I also don't miss working on all those Jeeps I had. The only vehicle I've ever had that I really miss is my Ram SRT-10. Loved that truck!

I must not keep my jeeps, long enough to notice allll these problems

cherokees are basic as poop easy to work on

I am liking my first 1st gen tacoma 3.4 auto 4x4

i only am getting 16 mpg same as my xj though

There's a 95 M3 coupe auto in Charlotte for $3300 on CL. I love mine. So much fun to drive & I average 25mpg to work. They're dependable if the main trance has been kept up.

Yeah, you gotta keep an eye on the main trance on those. If they lose their gaze, they no longer have the magic. :p
