My mom has a triumph spitfire it has the original key cylinder. Okay so when you turn the car on you have to push slightly in to turn it. Once started you have to continue to hold it in for the car to run. Do I need to just replace the cylinder or is there other problems that I haven't thought of?

It's likely the switch, so if replacing the cylinder will also replace the switch, then yes. Unless the cylinder is worn out enough that it's not staying in the proper switch position, which is hard to determine from your description. Does it just need a little love to keep it running, or is it trying to pop out into a different switch position..?

No im pretty sure the key it self stays in the right position when on it just needs to be pushed slightly in (forward or deeper into the cylinder). It's been a while since I've messed with it, my dad call and reminded me I was suppose to fix it. guess he's been tinkering with it today

Sounds like whatever holds the lock cylinder together isn't doing its job anymore or the internal contacts have lost some sproing. Either way, I'd at least get it in my hand and have a go at rebuilding it myself. Often, things like this are fairly simple and you can get several more years of service out of them with a little time.
