given the events of the last few weeks, we needed to find another car.

went to several dealerships, checked out 4Runners and Camrys

one Runner I hooked my OBD2 scan tool to, no communication, went back hooked it to my Runner, it's working fine. Hmmmm.

pass on that one, don't need a problem next time it's inspected.

Next stop down the road, large well known dealership, looking at a used '11 Camry SE, took it for a ride, liked it, went in to talk turKEY.

I noticed that the key for the vehicle was just that A KEY, this car comes from the factory with 2 remote keys and a regular cut key (valet key) all with chips in the head.

I asked about the remote keys, sales dude went to check into it, yeah he could get them.....for another $350 added to the cost of the vehicle.

WTF ? Really, a one year old car still in warranty and you want charge me for keys that should be with it to begin with ?

PASS !! My wife gave him what for ( very nicely might I add) and we went on down the road.

Went to the Toyota store and we found one we liked, 6 hours later we finally got out of there with a new ( to us ) 2011 Camry SE, Sales guy was nice, and I gave him a lot of shit, though I was much nicer than another couple I over heard in there, ( quite funny )

damn I'm glad this is over ! but we have payments again, GAH !

I think the wife will be driving my truck for awhile

Did you fall asleep on the way home?

If so... I wouldn't be surprised. Camrys are booooring. :flipoff2:

indeed they are, I'll take boring and fuel economy over high maintenance and performance any day

it's not a social statement, it's a nice clean family car for almost all occasion ( off-roading not being one of them )

if I wasn't 6'5" and big as a house we'd probably have gotten a Prius ( for mileage purposes, not the misguided notion of saving the planet )

my vehicle is a worn out pile, and will probably always be, her's needs to be reliable safe and economical.

this pisser about this whole deal, we now have car payment again, this sucks !

next time you look at something and it won't communicate with the obd2 scan tool it could be as simple as a blown fuse I can't remember on toyotas, but I know when I would inspect cars it seemed more of a chevy problem but the power feed through the obd2 was on the same fuse as the cig lighter power outlet so if someone had something pulling alot of juice (like through a power inverter) it would blow, but thats just something to check.

was an '05 4Runner V6

the scan tool would power up, and go thru self test, when trying to communicate and establish protocol, it could not connect.

It may have been my scanner, it's older, and not CAN capable, but it still should read basic OBD2 diagnostic ( which is still a requirement ) I've used it on CAN GM vehicles and gotten thru

could have been a pin out of place on the ALDL as well. I didn't look or push the issue, wife wasn't all that interested in it, mostly because it had more power than she's used too. which is fine with me. ( she has a heavy foot )

the engine was quite noisy for only having 95k on the odometer, which I find unusual, it was much more than injector noise

it may have been fine, but once she said no, it was time to bail. too bad, would be a good ride to pull the camper, plenty of power for it.
