My wife's car has been totaled in an accident. Our insurance company is requesting that we sign and mail the title to the salvage yard. Both of our names are on the title. Do we both have to be present and sign in front of the notary, or will one signature be good enough? I have called three different DMV license plate offices this morning about 15 times in total, but none of them answer the phone. Obviously getting both of us at the notary at the same time will be MUCH harder than if only one signature is required.

Thanks in advance,
Danny

Had a similar situation here recently on a real estate deal. There simply was no way that both the the wife and I could be at the same place at the same time in time.

Notary at my bank allowed wife to come in sign doc and leave it in her possession. I stopped by next day and signed she then sealed and handed it to me. Maybe an option

I have done this also.

Nothing says "both have to be there simultaneously", it's just the notary's job to make sure that both people have signed it.
Technically the notary could even come to you, you sign it, then they take it to your wife and she signs.

Did that once on a different kind of legal doc.

I know both parties have to be present, did not consider present @ different times, leaving the document.

Have you been paid out for the loose already? If so just sign it and mail it in. It's a salvage yard they notarize illegal shit all the time.

No, have not received payment for the total loss car yet.

I guess we will just wait until Friday. I should be able to meet her and both of us sign in front of the notary then.
