Carb Problem?

My jeep dies whenever I give it gas. It has an AMC 360, HEI ignition, and an edelbrock manual choke carb. I have checked the igition and valve timing, and replaced all fuel lines, fuel filters, fuel tank, and the fuel pump. I was replacing the fuel system anyway, and now seemed like a good time, but it didn't help. I have also double checked the performance of all of the HEI distrbutors internals. The jeep will idle all day long, but as soon as I give it gas, it dies instantly and blows smoke out of the carb. The only thing left that I can think of is the carb, maybe the accelerator pump? Anyone with more carb experience have a clue what this could be before I dump $300 into a new carb?

sounds like it either loading up WAAAAY bad.

Or possibly a timing issue

At first I thought it was the timing as well. I thought it had jumped timing since it happened all of the sudden after running fine for a year or so. Nothing had been changed before the problem occurred. I just took it out, and it died pulling out of the garage. Litterally the day before, it made it to and from Greensboro, and ran great - about 2 hours round trip. I have checked and double checked the timing. It's pretty wierd- runs great, idles flawlessly, and starts right up with the first turn of the key instantly. What else could cause it to "load up WAAAY bad?"
