Got a remanufactured. Thanks for replys.

soaking an assembled carb will not do much more than get the outside clean, buy a rebuild kit and disassemble it and do it right. Soaking it whole will make it clean outside, but will likely do nothing for the problem.

Not sure about a 22R carb, but most other carbs have parts in them that will swell and distort. If you are gonna soak it, take it apart and rebuild it

Thanks. Havent worked on the carbs. much yet. Just been working on the engines. Will look for a rebuild kit and let you all know how it goes. Anything i need to watch out for while doing it?

Small parts, look over the diagram before you disassemble the carb so you wont lose ans tiny items, make sure it all goes back in in the right places/order. Take your time, clean all the passages with compressed air after it soaks. (the canned stuff in the electronics dept. will work if you don't have a compressor just make sure it flows through all passages/ports. And follow all the instructions exactly.

flooding how ?
one cyl ( #1 ? ) or flooding all cyls ?

if it is only flooding No.1, there is a Diaphragm that has a pin hole in it, is called the Aux Accelerator Pump ( AAP ) this is a common on carbed 20-22R engines, will foul #1 plug as a result.

You used to be able to by the diaphragm seperately, but now it only comes in a rebuild kit.

pull the vacuum line off the diaphragm on the side closest to the valve cover, while the engine is off. if fuel dribbles out, this is your problem. if you follow that vacuum line, you will see it ends right above No.1 cyl intake runner.

though being 20+ years old, it's probably time to total rebuild anyway. DO NOT loose the washers sealing the fuel cut solinoid, or toss anything until you are done, you may have to reuse some stuff, as it may have been omitted in the carb kit.

Good luck !! I fawkin hate carburators !! Aisin carbs especially !!

Thanks for the tips.
I have a shop compressor so thats not a problem. any recommended cleaner? I really don't want to have to buy a whole bucket for 1 carb.

CRC if you can find it, Carquest seems to work pretty well, and the cans are a bit larger than most

I did pull the vacuum lines and gas did drip out of one of them, dont remember what one exactly.

Havent pulled the plugs yet, Will do that in the AM.

Pulled the plugs out today, All of them where black sooty. The 3rd one was wet looking smelled like gas. These plugs where new a week ago.

A few days late, but, where'd you get your rebuilt carb and how much$$? At 12 MPG with tool boxes on it and 16 with them off, I figure it's time for a rebuild myself. Any ideas where to get a rebuild kit?

Advance autoparts, had to exchange it 2 times but the third made it run like a new one. It was about 320.00, and they had one at autozone for 189.00 but i try to stick to the same parts store for all my parts.

i would get a rebuild kit from Napa

Exchange it 2 times? Were they that bad?

truck wouldnt hardly run with the first 2.
