CARMAX

Found a truck I like at carmax. Who has bought a vehicle from them and what was your experience like?
Is the no haggle price set in stone or can you jew them down?

The price is set in stone, no negotiating and there are a few add on fees (document and tax tag etc.)

bought a vehicle from the in 06, and it was a great experience, they gave you a 30 day no question ask bumper to bumper warranty (They replaced the door hinges because my wife didnt think they were smooth enough)

We looked at them again a month or so back and things had changed. The salesman I talked to told me as much, it is much more WYSIWYG now, and they only warranty major items.

If you are shopping in Charlotte Greg Hovekamp will take god care of you

We bought our exterra at carmax several years ago. No haggeling, just picked it out and signed something like 3 papers. I remember asking if thats all the papers I had to sign. At the time their slogan was(I think) ''Car buying made easy!''
And thats just what it was..Easy!

Just dont take them a trade in...they will #@^$#& you.

I'll give them their props on it being easy. I bought a mustang gt conv from them a few years ago. Found out 4 days later the wifey was pregnant. They traded the mustang out no problem with a grand cherokee. No issues at all imho and were great about it. On that note I agree with the trade in bs. I got offered 400 bucks for a 97 tj with 60k on it (this was in 03'). I about fell out of the chair. Sold it in 2 days in the paper and went in with cash. I'd buy there again and probably will in the next few mo.

I went to the one in Raleigh a couple years ago, was looking for a 4dr Taco, a 4Runner, or a Honda Odessy van. sales guy showed me what they had ( very few of each ) and then tried to direct me to a Dodge Caravan ( which they had a slew of ) I wasn't interested in any of them, and he pretty much lost interest in me. Because of that I ended up buying elsewhere ( '07 Camry ) The sales guy I delt with was pretty much a stuffed shirt. Hope you have a better experiance.

Great honest place to buy from. If your ride is modified at all, do not try and trade it in, they'll give you less than auction price for it, cause that's how they are gonna sell your trade and still try to come out in the black. It's worth shopping their internet site, and having a car brought to you from a nearby carmax if your local place doesn't have what you want

Thanks for the info. I have a stock 03 chevy s10 that I would want to trade in. Its very clean, never wrecked. I just need more room so looking at a bigger 2wd truck. The truck is at the charlotte location, so I will see if Greg still works there.

i bought my current grand cherokee from carmax in Raleigh. Great experience. I had gotten an offer for them to trade-in my old Jeep, it wasn't top dollar but it was about what I thought it'd be considering they would just be taking it to wholesale auction.

The sales guy I worked with was awesome, they were very up front and no BS. prices are no haggle. If a vehicle is priced too high they'll lower the price after a few weeks if it doesn't get any bites.

as Chris said, you can see their inventory online. if a vehicle you want is in a nearby store you can transfer it to your store for free, or pay a fee if its further away (fee count towards your purchase if you buy)

Well disreguard. I was looking at a 2006 toyota tacoma truck and I did a search thru comsumer reports, lemons auto, and technical service bulletins. the 2005-2007 were plagued with problems and got poor reviews. wont be buying a toyota. Looking at the nissans. so far good reviews.

on a trade in, realize most vehicles they will wholesale.
That means they will sell it cheap enough for someone else to buy it, then mark it up and then sell it to another person. They will pay you low enough to make a profit off this lowball sale. If you are patient you will always do better selling it privately.

When we bought our Tahoe, Greg was doing e-sales for both Charlotte locations. I think he has moved to strictly South Blvd now.

Yeah I know the dealerships like to low ball on the vehicles that get traded in. When I bought my 2003 truck in that year I had a 1991 rs camero to trade in. It had high mileage, but I took care of it and it was never wrecked. They offered me 200 bucks for it. I told the guy to put down the pipe and stop smoking crack. So I had to buy the 2003 without a trade in and sold the camero later in a private sell for 1400.
In my situation now I would rather just trade in the 2003 then have to sit on it and go thru the private selling deal. I just made an offer on 38 acres of land so I have to watch my money. I would rather have the 4k that kelley blue book says its worth at the time of the transaction so my monthly payments will be lower.
