Carowinds or Kings Dominion ?

never been to either, want to take our 9yo to an amuesment park this summer

Preferably camp some where near by

ideas, info ?

( Disney is not an option at this time )
 
From where you are Carowinds is not worth the drive. I vote Kings Dominion. Although I've only been to Kings Dominion once when I was a teenager, from what I remember it beats Carowinds hands down anyhow.
 
my crowd shuffled between Bush Gardens and Kings Dominion.They would get year passes and go several times.I myself never went to any and don't do theem parks.

That makes up my mind. Too bad a cold Bud would be $9.
 
No idea on the camping but Busch Gardens and Kings Dominion are both better than Carowinds. Busch Gardens is nicer and more park like. Somewhat like Disney World, it actually looks nice. Kings Dominion has more rides. I forget the name but the biggest fastest coaster at Kings Dominion is awesome. They actually had to slow it down a bit because folks were blacking out due to G forces.
 
Been awhile since i have been to kings dominion. I used to work there in high school so i am kind of partial. There is a campground off of i95 not far from there.
I did recently go to Busch gardens in Tampa. They had an online deal for $75 that included admission along with all food and drink other than alcohol. The alcohol was still 50% off though. Kings dominion definitely had more rides. But Busch gardens was still cool

Very nice campground about twenty years ago from what I can remember..........it was a van jam(truckin). About 400 custom vans were there with three rock and roll bands for a seven day party! Third night (I think) we had a marsh-mellow fight with 800 people slinging M-M for about six hours! Saturday night we had both security gaurds on stage nekked and drunk......... probably changed since then though! They wouldn't let us back the next year............
 
Oh, after rereading your original question, here's one more thing to check. Ride height requirements! They probably have them online. Measure your kid and plan accordingly. Kids hate being 1" short for a ride.

This. We went to the Great Wolf Lodge with our two boys, knowing one of them was too short. The other was right on the line, the first day they let him in, and the second they wouldn't. He was bummed because he couldn't ride all the rides he had just ridden the day before. We went to walmart and bought him some swim shoes and sole inserts to make him a little taller and waited for the lifeguards to change positions, they let him right in with a bracelet like the day before.
 
she's 55.5" tall ( that half is important you know !! )

She should be good for all but the most extreme rides which we probably wouldn't go to anyway ( yet )

I have to say, I sure wish they would put a MAX height restriction on some of the rides, years ago at DOllywood I got my knee wedged in a roller coaster car, painful the whole ride and pretty comical trying to get unwedged after the fact, that and some of the roller coasters that have the over the shoulder pull down bars HURT when they slam the fawkin things down on your shoulders!! not to mention the spine compression resulting from said event. I couldn't ride Batman at Great America several years ago because of this, my dad had to ride by himself.....
 
King's Dominion is considerably cheaper than Busch Gardens. Has a lot more rides, too. Busch Gardens is almost as expensive as Disney World. But it's more of a theme park....Kings Dominion and Carowinds are just amusement parks. You go there for the rides, that's about it. And I'd go to Kings Dominion over Carowinds, every time.
