Carports .....
Do you have one ? --- like it? / how old is it?
Do you liked the idea of one, but just never got one?
Is it a DIY kit ? [A truck pulls up, drops a pallet.....way you go...]
Are you/company an installer ? Discount for a long time NC4x4 member :) ?
Would you recommended an installer ? (Raleigh/Wake Forest)
Are they all the same ? [buy cheapest one ?]
Are they considered a temporary structure ? ( zoning / taxes etc..)
.
I would need a 12 ft wide, minimum high is 12ft.-ish X 20ft long.
.
Anything I may be forgetting ?

I remember a bunch of them failing after a heavy snow in NC a few years or so ago. I would guess the key is to go with more/upgraded supports and not just buy the budget basic kit.

I think @marty79 used to install them or build them.

Between my parents and me, we have 4 of the "cheap" metal carports that are basic 2-car setups with 6' legs. We bought them years ago when they were around $699 installed. We have never had any issues with them structurally. A couple of them we have actually taken down, moved and rebuilt in a different place.

My biggest hesitation about them now is the cost. They were a great value when they were $699 installed, no telling how much one would cost now.

My Dad has a 30'x45' shop that is built with the metal square tube materials. In 2018 it was $11,500 installed with concrete, 12' side walls, 2 10x8 metal coil doors, 1 man door, 2 windows and roof insulation. The same building today from the same place is over $22,000.

We have a couple of them too. One of them got moved about 1/4 mile assembled. Another I took down and reassembled.

This completely. Back when they were that cheap, we got them for all kinds of stuff. I have family that got two of them and put them back to back or hay storage. Have other family that got them just for firewood storage. Back in the day they were the go to.

Not anymore. They are ridiculous on cost now.

I have two "vertical roof" carports (20x21), love them...more or less gave away an 18x20 "horizontal" roof when I could not find anyone to move it 300' (obstructions prevented assembled travel in between)

Two units are brought to the site & assembled in about 2-3 hours (separate days, ordered @ different times)

No complaints, no permits (but Davidson County)

I have a three sided vertical roof that is two years old and took a huge snowload this winter with no issues. I did upgrade to the "engineered" plans which would cover me if the county ever came looking around , and this also adds more bracing. I paid $3500 for it but I bet its $5000 now .

I sorta get this argument but what alternative has not rapidly increased in price? I'd say apple to oranges the pears are just as expensive comparatively.

I'll give more details later if needed, they're not all the same. Stay away from the 15g ones they're cheap. Buy one thats 14g or 13g (yes thats offered) and definitely get an A Frame. Biggest thing to watch out with installers is usually it's a crew that on a 12 by 20 or by 30 they'll come in and have that thing done in 2 hours and usually it's not completely square the roof screws they put in half the time they squish all of the the washers on the screwheads (will leak sooner than later) but if you watch them and are there the whole time they're less likely to rush through it like that.
