Allright guys, let the debate begin. I have a Dana 44 from an 84 Wagoneer under my rig. It has a high steering set up already in it and stock YJ springs. I am welding the perches on to complete my SOA and here is the dilema I am running into.

What should I set my caster to? I have heard all the way from +3, +6, +8 and even +15. How can I come up with a close to right answer before I weld the perches on?

Help please.

I am sorry guys, I was refering to the pinion angle.

It will be a little of both, something to drive the 11 miles I have to go to work once or twice a week, the rest of the week I will be driving my Durango, go to the town on the weekends, take it out to the trails and mess around and if it breaks, it can sit oin my garage until I fix it. That is basically the description for the use of this Jeep.

If it is a daily driver I would set the castor like I said. If it is trail only point the pinion on the axle at the t-case and drop it 1*.

Bad advice for a front axle.

ALWAYS set your castor angle before you worry about pinion angle on a street driven vehicle. If your pinion angle is not livable, then you have to cut, and turn the knuckles to get the proper castor, and pinion angles. And on the front, you dont need to angle the pinion down because it actually pulls down some with power put to it, just opposite from the rear, how much depends on your setup. If anything, angle it up a couple degrees.

I think you were thinking about a REAR axle.. in which case, using a CV driveline (or a regular one if you're OK with vibs), your advice was spot-on.. ;)

Wouldn't that be correct except for a HP/reverse rotation front axle?

So what would be the proper caster and what would be the best spot to measure at?

Keep in mind the axle is out of the vehicle and the perches are shaved off already.

Thank you Big Bob. Good looking out.
