I have a 92 Jeep Cherokee Laredo 2wd w/ the 4.0. Has anyone removed/gutted the cat on this motor? I was wondering would it make an improvement on power/mpg or a disimprovement? I have a flowmaster 40 muffler and I will be getting a header soon. Any advice or opinions would be great, thanks.

Eric

Leave it overnight on I-40 and someone will remove the cat for you...

It'll have negligible effects removing the cat. All it does is make your jeep pollute a ton more. Get a high flow race cat if you're that set on messing with the cat.

Mine was rattling inside so I crushed the internals (hollowed it out) and I didn't see any difference other than the rattling was gone. I could have sold that crap that I crushed out since that is why they are stealing them.

Ok thanks everyone. no thanks on that header, I got a friend who's giving me his for free.

When my cat went out on my XJ, i just got a regular cat, except it was a universal unit that was 2.5" (stock 2.25") and it was a lot shorter that the stock unit. I call it "high flow". lol.

I do know where robersonville is though. a buddy and i used to cut the grass at the Caraustar (sp?) industries plant. used to go to Family Favorites all the time. good burgers but i heard they're closed now???

hscrugby - that header in decent shape??

Yea
it's in great shape, just 1 it has an EGR valve (maybe? not sure wtf it's for?) on one of the pipes, and the o2 sensor plug wouldn't fit since I would have had to drill out my oil pan and install the o2 sensor from it?
:D
It's kind of odd.
I've taken some pictures, and can shoot you some once I get around to hooking my real computer back up.
If you're interested, there is another guy that PM'd me too.

yeah it's caraustar. <~~They're closed, but Family favorites moved out in front of Food Lion on HWY 903. They have "angus" burgers now.
