I searched this forum and there is not much on here concerning CB antennas......so I went to the web but I have a few questions.
I have a cobra CB for the Jeep but I will be taking the wife's 97 4Runner to Uwharrie end of April for the CNC spring bash. I like this one.... http://www.firestik.com/CatalogFrame.htm
Is it available locally or do I have to buy on line?
I have seen the selection over at the Flying J in Burlington but I don't think the wife would appreciate a big honkin antenna on the grocery getter, and its too far.
I will be looking around for a new antenna for the Jeep as well. And, I don't like the magnetic ones or the through the glass ones.
Any places to buy antennas in Raleigh area? Thanks in advance.

Also,
Please feel free to pimp your CB mount photos......I want to figure out where to mount an antenna on my 4Runner.

Antenna mount from a piece of angle iron. The antenna is a Radio Shack steel whip.

A steel whip is the best performing antenna. If you want a fiberglass antenna a Everhart is a much better antenna and it's about the same price. The taller the antenna the better. A truck stop may have what you're looking for. The make Antennat mounts for a bazillion vehicles. The best ones are homemade like above.

Taller dose work better. There are lots of trees at UNF, and trees do not like tall antennas. A short antenna will not whip around like a long one will. More than likely you will be using the CB for short range wile on the trails. What ever you chose have the antenna tuned after it is installed.

Eric,
I would go with a firestick or simular size. you should get one that is adjustable so you can fine tune your SWR and be able to get the strongest signal out.

BTW I have a magnet mount that you can barrow if you want. I assume that you want it for the URE trip coming up.

I have heard that before, I just thought I needed to be above my roof line.

Stump, good point.

I hate to see giant whip antennas on the trail. They are dangerous for your spotters. I can reach for miles with a regular 3' firestik. Fiberglass antennas are just right for the trail.

Another good point! Thanks for all the feedback.

Carl,
Thanks. I have to find someone with an SBR meter.

I'll let you know about the magnet mount. Since I have "permission" to install on the wifey's ride I am looking for something workable but without looking to wild. I think the 3-4 ft firestick will might do....CAn I buy this locally?

Sorry for the late responses. I had to take a sick day today and spent the better part of it in my garage trying to heal myself! HAHAha

I have a short whip. On the road I put it on the roof. on the trail it is on the hood. You can see it is still hitting the trees.
If any one needs an antenna tune in the charlotte area, let me know. I have a good SWR / Power meter
