I have a uniden CB in my truck. I have had it for about 10 years. I broke my antenna off so I bought a new firestick II with new cable. I used my SWR meter and got a reading of 1.3 so I did not adjust the antenna. On the highway with trucks all around, I can not hear any traffic. Not even static if I turn the squelch all the way down. When I key the mic the needle on the dial moves and the RX/TX light turns from green to red. I don't know if anyone can hear me and I sure can't hear them. If I switch to WX I can hear the weather broadcast just fine.

Any idea what is going on?

I'd just be guessing as to a problem, like did you fry something while the antenna was broken? As for trucks on the road, they don't talk as much as they used to. Have you tried scanning some base stations? Channels like 3, 5, 7, 12, 13? Try it around 9pm, just siting at home. Flip through some channels & see. Find a buddy with a CB. Good Luck!

Ill try tonight. I am close to the highway. I know the radio was accidentally turned on after the old antenna broke so it's possible there is damage.

If you can open the squelch and not get static, sounds like the radio is fucked up.

To receive as much as possible, the RF gain should to the max (all the way to the right) and the squelch to the min.

Turning on the radio with a broke antenna should not have damaged anything.
