I was wondering how many of you guys use the cb radio in ur truck and how many have them but dont use them.

I've got a cheap one in the trail rig, gets used every trip. Our whole wheeling crew runs a cb. Also got an expensive one in the tow rig. It comes in real handy when convoying to the trail, like to harlan, to coordinate fuel, food, or bathroom breaks.

Another vote for only on the trail. Though it was nice the other day when the interstate was at a standstill and I could turn it on to hear why.

This.

Listening to my group going back and forth to the trail is hilarious.
Getting off the interstate and everyone is turning right/ Daniel, you want to go left up here. The mall is down a few miles.

Mostly use it just off road or for the PA system. But when on the highway it is nice to cut it on and find out whats going on in traffic jams. And weather is sometimes nice if i havent seen the weather.

Nice on in the tow rig/dd and listen regularly. Priceless on long trips for traffic, detours, cops, and entertainments.

Had a good one in the trail rig, but removed it and only use a small hand held now. Couldn't stand seeing something nice get the :poop: kicked out of it.

ok im sold what kind of cb do i need to buy? Im getting a big brithday girft. bumpers and cb radio and other stuff.

The antenna and its mount and coax are the most important parts. A shit radio with a good antenna is better than a great radio with a crap antenna. If your mostly trail riding and talking in a close convoy, get a cheaper radio. A cobra 19 is decent.

That's a decent little radio. It'd be prefect for a trail rig, just get the antenna dialed in good. There are plenty of threads on the web about setting up antenna mounts and setting swr.

the reason i was asking i seen a jeep around town with dual fiberglass whips. do u know were i can get the mount to mount it off the side by tail light

Just FYI... dual antennas need to be ~8ft apart to propagate properly. It makes a strong signal directly ahead and directly behind, with nulls to the left and right.

For the trail, don't get a whip. You'll put someones eyes out. A good fiberglass one works great. I recently downgraded to a smaller short one, it's maybe 2 feet long. Is about as tall as my cage. Hadn't had a chance to get the SWR's set yet though. but for the most part, happy with it.
I am pretty partial to the Cobra CB's, had good luck with them.

I also use a CB in my hauler, and will be putting one in my RV also. Makes it nice going down the road when you can talk to who ever you are caravaning with.

I was thinking that a fiberglass whip might get broken by a tree or sumthing. but yea im looking for a fiberglass one anyways.

They have a spring you can get at any radio shop or truck stop that will allow it to bend as much as you need it to. Although, running understuff seems to take the top off of them. The little cap that you remove to tune them.
Been running that set up for years

well i got my birthday today it is a corba 19 radio.that walmart sells. now i got to find a fiberglass whip and all

I've got a nice CB in my Jeepster. Had it tuned for max output and recieving. Bought a good mic to go with it all. Good cable and antenna...damn thing don't work right most of the time. It's one of my winter projects...

I've been using one of those Walmart cobra 19's on the trail for about three years and never had a problem with it ,if you want a good flexible fiberglass antennae the Wilson flex series are good ones there top loaded and tuneable

We use CBs if multiple trucks are going to the same job. Other wise it just sits there and collects dust until there is a traffic jam and I have to figure out how to get out of the mess. Haven't got one installed in the BlueOx yet. I need another antenna.

OK where Would you guys mount it. in a zj. pics
