You probably didn't have it grounded properly.

As far as shops, I don't know. A large truck stop might help.
 
Ground the antenna, also ground the antenna! This is the biggest problem with a CB.
 
Don't know of any CB shops around Charlotte. Maybe Truck stops down 85, around Grover, or on in SC. Think there is one at a Truck Stop on 40, round Waynsville, NC. Don't travel enough anymore to keep up.
 
I77 exit 42. There is a cb shop to the left side of the truck stop. Good guys in there. They can hook it up and test it for you.
 
What do you need done?
 
There is a guy at Bills Truck stop near Salisbury, 336 956 1609 that works on and sells them.

There's a really good cb shop in Gaffney off of exit 90 next to Donnie's Restaurant
