Planning on wiring up the cb in the jeep tommorow, I know a lot of guys run them at ure. I already have 1 with high and low channels. Was wondering if I should just get a cheaper radio or put the one I have in.

Not sure what you mean by high and low channels. I have a small 40 channel radio, think it's a Uniden 510 but not 100% sure, and it works fine.

*Edit: just checked & it's a Uniden Pro 510.

I have a radio that has upper and lower single side band as well as 10,11 and 12 meter ham (CB is 11 meter)
Some older CBs have a "high" and "low" set of bands that are different from single side bands.
You don't need high quality or lots of power to just talk to fellow offroaders are URE.
I have talked as far away as Cali on side band when conditions are right.

If you're open top or without doors, in the dry season the dust may ruin the one you have now. I always ran with the Cobra 75 WX ST with good results. Plus, you remote mount the power supply, leaving only the cord and mic visible.

I'll just get a simple one then. The one I have from dog hunting days has at least 20 knobs and switches.

We just switched over to the midland x-talker CB is a pain!! ...... we will see how they do this weekend.

The simpler the cb the better in a rig! Which leads me to ask if anyone is interested in a built galaxy 88? Upper lower sidebands plus ham stuff. My nextdoor neighbor buddy(ham operator) moved and its too much radio for me to mess with by myself and definitly too much for a vehicle!

"breaker one nine can I get a radio check?"...................."how bout it crow killer?".............."loud and clear"..........."10-4 ..... pree sheee 8 it good buddy" ............"roll on rabid rabbit the sky is blue as far as I can see" :driver:

I've had the same ole radio shack one for years. It's travelled between many a vehicles. A good antenna is where it's at in my opinion. (You probably already know all this.) I had a cheap RS antenna that wouldn't get over the next knob when we lived in the mountains, then I bought a nice fiberglass one at a truck stop and I could hear chatter from all over the place. We lived in Jefferson and I could hear trucks on 77. It wouldn't push out that far but received well!

I have a 7 foot Sirio Megawatt Rigid on my roof and a lot of radio on my dash.....

Antenna and placement is key but like I said around a close area you can do fine with low power and cheap antennas.

I recently sold my radio (10, 11, 12 M) and am planning to take my test to get my HAM license at the end of the month.
I am buying a handi talky first. Dual band 2M/440. Looking at Icom IC_T70A and Yaesu FT-70.
With a $20 magnet antenna on my roof for using in the car, I should be able to talk anywhere using one of the many repeaters in the area.
