Century Welders?

I really have no clue, but I've borrowed drkelly's 110 Century MIG a few times, it did what I needed to do. I think this post is the second time I've heard of Century welders.

I believe the Snap On units are made by Century if that is any indication. I've heard that they used to be good, but quality has dropped in the past 3-4 years.

Don't know who makes Snap On welders, But I wouldn't take the new price of my 250 amp mig with the snap on name on it. Works flawless.

I've got an old 220 Century, if you're looking for parts post up and I'll hit you with a phone #.

I've got a century, miller, hobart and hypertherm.

The century is what I use most just because of where it's sitting. In 12 years the only non consumable part (tips/nozzles/etc) I've ever replaced was the fan motor. A company bought them out years ago and has all the spares, don't have the number with me now. Meaning you'll be waiting on parts from UPS when it lays down on you. The reason I bought it back then is I went on weight, figuring the heaviest welder had the biggest transformer in it, it out weighed the miller equal by 30 - 40 lbs if I remember right. It's never shut itself down for overheating either, even when the fans was acting up before I replaced the motor.

I wouldn't go looking to buy one now but it has proven reliable enough for me, just go with something easier to find parts for. If I found a working one at a steal of a price I'd buy it though.

I was told the same thing (about the recent decline in QC, not about Snap-on) by a dude who works at a local machine shop who was selling his old century mig.

I got a great deal on my lincoln 175 so I passed him up on it but the shop does some high dollar contract work and he preferred it to the more current lincoln and miller offerings. Said the duty cyle was longer and the old centurys were overall just a more durable machine.

I've never welded with one and this is just what I was told. For all the praise he gave it I wondered a bit why he was selling it but I don't have the time to try to figure stuff like that out...

i read somewhere that lincoln bought century a few years ago.

and yea i found a 105/90 amp with the bottle and cart for $250 idk if thats a "deal" or not though.

Old Snapon were till about ten years ago. Tknop is correct...
Stay away from the older century stuff. Lincoln bought them out for the name and discontiuned alot of replacement parts....

the 110V century's I know nothing about, offer him $150 - 200 for it? But play with it first to see if it's right. Don't know if the 110V century's had tweeco guns and stuff like the 220V models.

I'd say mines the older version, if you want the number I'll post it up as I stated in my first post. I guess Lincoln bought them a few years later, Century was mainly doing the battery charger thing.

I use it for my side business, go thru around 130 lbs of .035 a year with it, the other welders less than that.

I know Josh's dad (Universal Automotive) use's the same one I have, he has the aluminum setup on his for aluminum driveshafts also.
