Single white female, doesn't make a pile o $$ (works for UNCC, runs a program for student services).
Anybody know how the area is re: crime, problems, etc? The low price makes her/ us a little nervous (their current return offer is several thou lower + closing) but I have no idea what the market is like there nowadays either..

Right smack in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the college. Speedway, concerts, I85 & I485 just a stones throw away. Area is a bit dark but not high crime.

We have a condo being rented just down the road from there. Lots of eating and entertain though!

thats an average to ok deal in that area.
like ^ said...its not in the ghetto but its not upscale either.

I expect a kegger next door before a drive by but wouldnt be shocked by either

Well she was a social worker for years, lived in several "sketchy" places, had a long-term black b/f (recently split) so lets say "racial diversity" in itself shouldn't be a big deal. Plus she's pretty outgoing and digs parties, getting out etc so that may be a reasonable fit then.

Personally a .12 acre lot would make me crazy lol but I'm sure for her that means a bonus of minimal yardwork to do.

Thats 10 minutes from me. That spot is just far enough that most of her shopping and going out will be in the university area which has gotten worse and worse in the last few years. I grew up in that area an have seen a lot of changes.

Decomp is right, lots of food and stuff to do not far from there but if she could look east of 485 into harrisburg she'd be in a little safer area that has much more of a small town feel. We have an area called Harrisburg town center that is a small somewhat self contained community that is very family oriented and safe for a single lady. In that subdivision there are restaurants (fast food and sit down), bars, grocery stores and good people that appreciate the fact that its a clean and safe place to live and will likely keep it that way. I'll put it this way. I grew up in east Charlotte but wanted to be in a little better area to settle down and have kids with the wife but still wanted to be close enough to get all the features of a larger city. Harrisburg is where its at IMO

Harrisburg or anywhere else outside of Mecklenburg County is where it's at if you ask me.

I have a friend with a nice little house for sale in an older neighborhood off of independence and east way. Pm me if u want more info.

Looked it up on google satellite. *looks* to be a fairly nice neighborhood. Yards seem to be kept up. Not junky. Is there an HOA? One of the houses to the side of her is valued at 69k.
As far as looks, I wouldn't be afraid to live there but I know that doesn't give you any history of crime, etc.

I went to UNCC, lived in the college and lived in Harrisburg. Harrisburg is nice, but that side of old concord is a nicer area than the area between old concord and hwy 49. That is more sketch. The train going by is kinda annoying but you get used to it.

Thanks guys.
She ended up bailing on the offer (well not counter-offering) just couldn't get the feel on the neighborhood.

Would that be in the "little Mexico", or "Crime closed-Eastland Mall" area? :shaking:
I refinished the floors. Seemed like a nicer older, light hood. I know the one neighbor is an old white dude with a pet pig that comes out of the house and eats acorns.

that house is just like 1/4 mile from me right now (workin in Charlotte...) and the area seems reasonably safe and OK.

I can work out a drive-by in my F350 to discount it a little if you want? ;)

The train isn't too bad, hasn't woke me up yet...
