My name is Maureen Burdick, I work in the events department at Charlotte Motor Speedway. We are holding the fall Food Lion AutoFair in August from the 25ht - 28th, and I was interested in seeing if any member of the club is interested in putting a few rock crawlers on display at the show and even taking on a short mini course.

If you are unfamiliar with the event, it's a 4 day automobile extravaganza where hundreds of car clubs are in attendance and thousands of vehicles are put on display. We attract over 100,000 people to the event which is right here at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the infield of the track. Each AutoFair we put a focus on a specific genre of vehicles to showcase. This show we are concentrating on the 100th Anniversary of Chevy, rock crawlers, bulletproof cars, and iconic vehicles from movies. After doing some research I came across your website and saw all of your vehicles! At this time we are trying to get someone to build a course for us so we can show the public how rock crawlers operate, so not only would a few of your club’s vehicles be on display, but we would also like a few to take on the course.

If this is something any club members are interested in or would like more information on the event, I would like to talk more about it with you. It's an amazing event and a great place to show off your work! I hope to hear from someone soon!

I would volunteer my rig. If Ya need pics let me know (my build thread is not up right now, avatar pic is my other Jeep not the one I would bring). You could try contacting Ricky at 4x4cross, he puts on a lot of events & could maybe have some one make a course. He's close to speedway also.

the way some of these guys drive im not so sure the caretakers of the speedway will be happy with a course in the infield. and if its wet....... u might have some splainin to do..
on the other hand having them set up and crawl each others tires imo is awesome. think the fans would agree...

Thanks everyone for your replies and pics! Those of you who expressed interest in putting your rig on display, or taking on a short mini course, please call me asap. You can reach me here at the speedway at 704-455-3205. We are trying to lock in a definite amount of rock crawlers and time is drawing near so the earlier you call, the better!

jweezyferg: The mini course would be outside the infield of the superspeedway track. It would be located right outside gate 26 on our 1/8 mile track. It would be awesome if we could have your rig (tall black Jeep) in your second pic at the show! Give me a call and we can discuss it further!

Thanks again guys!

big black jeep isnt mine. was posting for altoids.....

So what happened in the events department? Last year when I did all the leg work for ECORS to come to CMS and expressed my feelings about the TORC series, with it's potential popularity- Seamus pretty much laughed me out of the office. Expressing his disinterest in a "redneck" past time and it's inability to produce revenue. Now that TORC has exploded and this hobby is growing does the potential "income" finally have those at the Speedway showing interest?

Looks like they found someone that actually knows a bit about wheeling to take care of it instead :flipoff2:

Better late than never I suppose....:flipoff2:

After a little snooping around I see that there have been some management changes in the events department.

"If you build it they will come"
If this materializes and something does get worked out I can bring out quite a few rigs to setup/play on the short course. My shop is located about 4 minutes from the speedway and I'd love to setup something but I'd need to know for sure that this will happen so I dont organize a bunch of guys to come out for nothing. Here are a few I could get out there. I'll contact the owners of a few more I've built and see if it would be possible to get more.
I'd like to talk in person if you'd give me a call this week Thanks Chris 704-361-0928

I've been in contact with a few different folks over at the speedway and haven't heard anything else about a rock course. I do know however that the guys from Carolina Truggies will be bringing out I think 4 trucks and I'll be bringing 8 to setup a display in the nationwide garage and a few will be out front so you should come check us out. If they are doing something with the rocks I think there were a few other guys from here that have also been in contact with the event coordinators trying to organize something so I'd also like to know whats happening with that.

Dang...

I have been talking about bringing a buggy out to the auto fair for a couple years... Just so happens when the chance comes we have an ECORS race... Have fun, And get some people fired up about the growing sport of Offroading. Maybe M&M can make it out next year.

thanks Pj

i would also like to know whats going on with this because i would like to bring my comanche out there. It was in the auto fair with a previous owner in september 08.

I have a DDable mildly modded IFS Late model Tacoma I could bring out.......if you want to get something out from the other side of the off-roading spectrum.

I can wheel Harlan one weekend then have a valet park it at some fancy restaurant the next. If you would like mildly built DD rigs there, that can still get dirty, let us know.
