So I cant take credit for finding the shocks some on else did on the interweb. I found a free way to mod them to fit a chevy and probably others very easy. these are 12 inch travel and will fit the back mounts on a 4 inch lifted truck or a shackle flip with no mods. If used on the front you will need bigger pump stops or relocate the top mount with a F250 upper shock mount
Parts list:
4x Gabriel Guardian #81342
Tools:
Vise grips
Torch
9/16x3 bolt
cup of water, bucket, rain, snow, ect, ect,,
cut of wheel/hacksaw. some kind of cutting device
1st thing 1st you will need a to goto Autozone and get Shocks for a 90 dodge w350 4x4. You want the Gabriel Guardian #81342. They are the longest and the cheapest at just a little over 12 inches
this is a pic of a stock shot full extended and the Gabriel full closed
so the 1st thing we need to do because the bushings are wrong is fix that for free. on the stock shock the lower bushing has a sleeve.
What you need to do is heat up the inside of the sleeve with a torch remember to try and do it even
Now with some vice grips it should pull right out nice and easy
next with the sleeve still hot slide it right into the bottom bushing of the Gabriel shock. Be sure to get it even in the bushing. and once in dunk into water to stop it from melting the bushing and to set it in place.
ok half way there now on the other end of the Gabriel you will find a metal sleeve. Do the same thing as before. Besure to evenly heat the metal sleeve from the INSIDE don't burn up your bushing!!! Grab the end with vise grips and pull the sleeve out.
Now you are going to need a 9/16 bolt and your torch
once it looks like that you are ready. you will just slowly push it threw the whole it will start rolling smoke the deeper it goes work it back and forth. Using the threads as a saw untell you have a nice clean 9/16 hole...PS I hole you are holding the bolt with your vise grips
This next step is not needed. but I didn't want mud stuck in the covers and wanted to be able to clean them or add rubber boots later if I wanted to. Take a cut off wheel or hack saw and 3/8 of and inch down cut a str8 line all the way around. I eye balled it but if you have OCD or your a little girl or drive a ford you can use a hose clamp to make a perfect even cut.
well that's it the whole thing takes about 7 min a shock
now go put your super cheap 12 inch travel shocks on. The reason for me doing this was I didn't want to waste $150 on shocks when im ordering 2.5 remote reservoir shocks. Well have fun wheeling
