Ok so for some time now I have been trying to figure out this check engine light issue. I keep getting a p0441 code, I moved to Leland from Ohio (no e-check in the county I lived in up there, so no worries about the light) and I need to get it fixed to get it inspected. I have replaced all bad vacuum lines that I could find, replaced gas cap also. It made a 13hr drive with no check engine light, then once I get in stop and go traffic then the light will come on. So long easy throttle no check engine light, stop and go or hard throttle then i get the light. Please Help all advise is appreciated. Oh and to add jeep runs fine, no missing, no stumble of throttle, ruff idle, does not matter how much gas you have full, 1/2, empty it does not matter. Thanks

What year jeep ?? engine?? more details.

sorry forgot i did not fill out sig. it is 2001 4.0L atk reman. Not getting instant email on this so sorry for the delay. please let me know if you need anything else

EVAPs, can drive you nuts, & usually don't tell you exactly where the problem is! Could be as simple as gas tank pressure sensor, or a full charcoal canister. More of trial & error! LOL
:kaioken:

Typically that code will set on that model from either a failed EVAP purge solenoid or a vacuum leak. The solenoid is on the passenger side of the engine compartment near the firewall.

ok well it only popes the code when you have a heavy foot, if slow and easy pedal it seems to not pop. can i test the purge valve? and what or how to check the charcoal canister?

So clear it out, drive it with an easy foot for a couple of days and have it inspected. The light must be off for the inspection to pass but after that it can come back on. Better yet, if it comes and goes, one day when it's out, have it inspected. It will still pass.

that is the weird part this thing has never had a light just turn off, when i installed the new motor i forgot to pug in an o2 sensor and it came on, when i plugged it back in i drove for 3 days (70 miles round trip to work) it never turned off. do you know how long i need to drive it before i can take it to get it inspected

You may have to clear it. The fault has to be not currently present for quite a few starts for it to turn the light off.

From what I've heard some shops know what the normal weight of the canister is. They remove it & weigh it.If it's way heavy, then they know it's flooded. You can not drain one, it saturates the charcoal.

Ok I will rest the code again and try driving with a light foot, and see if it comes back real fast. If it does i will get it smoke tested, if it does not then i will try to get it emission tested, then worry about it when I have a little more time and money. Thanks rodney, if I get it smoke tested I will also ask them if they know what it is suppose to weigh. I will also do some digging online and see if i can find the weight somewhere, so i can check it myself.
