Check Engine Light

A question for you inspection gurus. I have an 06' Duramax with the CEL light on. Codes say it is for the trans controller. Will it pass the NC safety inspection with the light on, or will they automatically fail it?

I'm no inspection guru, but I think 3/4 ton & up only have to have safety inspections?

It would be safety only, but technically the CEL being off is part of the check, just like emissions equipment. It's all about where you go really

Mine passed last year with a CEL on an ‘11 F350

Diesel or over 8500/8600 GVWR (not sure which but thinking it's 8500) is exempt from emission/obd testing.

Yep, I know its safety only but wasn't sure about a CEL requirement.

Pull the fuse, put back in, then immediately go get the inspection, so it won't have kicked back on yet.

@RatLabGuy no need, it's safety only.. only safety stuff needs pass, no worries if the lights on or not.. seen a few come from SC with broken CEL bulbs/LEDs.

Likely no prob with a bigger truck. With 1/2 ton and cars, that would fail it.

I've had a trans code in my 04 Suburban for 10 years now. I just clear the codes, drive it until everything is ready and it shows the trans code "pending" but the Chicken light isn't back on yet, and have it inspected then. Passes that way, then the light pops back on shortly afterwards and stays on until next year.
