The check engine light on my 01 wrangler is killing me. It came on awhile back and i had it hooked up, it said something about sensor in bank 3. Well the i was driving it one day and the light went off, and stayed off for about 2 months. Now the light is back on. Any ideas?

we need a little more info (code, does jeep run bad/different) sounds like a o2 sensor code from your desc. could it be bank 1 sensor 3?

A P0000 code would help alot, but we have been seeing alot of O2 sensor failures as they get up in mileage. If will be a bank 1 or back 2 there is no bank 3 on a 4.0L

actually there's only 1 bank on a 4.0L it will be a PO135 1/1 or 1/2 there's one right below the manifold collector hookup. and one in the cat.

i'll have it checked again this week or weekend.

There are 2 on a OBD 2 4.0L cylinders 1,2,3 are bank 1, cylinders 4,5,6 are bank 2. The O2's are labeled 1/1(front upstrem before cat), 2/1 (rear upstream before cat), 1/2 (front downstream after cat) and 2/2( rear downstream after cat).

i'm thinking it might be the 2/1.

That would be the rear upstream you can get to it without raising the Jeep directly under the intake manifold on the rear exhaust manifold

any way to check them?

ok, i think the code was po34 or po342. Said bank 2.

p0135 is bank 2/number one sensor preheater malfunction.Mine has been doing this on my 01 for 4 years now.During the summer you don't see it but the colder it gets, the more frequent.I just time inspections to when it goes out.I can't tell any difference in driving.

re check engine

try changing where you get your gas , if its an ethanol blend and, the blend is off it will light the light, my dakota will do the same thing

well i changed the o2 sensor. light went off, then came back on.

it was a bosch
