I'm about ready to drop in the used 3.73 gears and carrier with a new spartan locker in the front D30 on my CJ. Before I start pulling my Jeep apart, which shim pack thicknesses should I start with? The ones from the donor axle or the ones from my axle?

I picked up an install kit plus a Lube Locker from ECGS. I don't think I need anything else other than time and gear oil to complete the install, hopefully in the next two weekends, at which point I will need someone to check my pattern :)

Use the ones from your current housing. Note the -/+ marking on top of the pinion. If the new one is the same as the old one (+1 for example), button it up with those shims.
For preload shims, you'll need between 55-60 thousanths.
Take a pic of the -/+ markings on each and PM me or post up, I'll tell ya mathematically what to do

D60u. The sharp lines at the bottom make me think I need to pull some pinion shim. Pull 3thou or run it? 0.008BL

Coast is showing a hair deep and drive is a hair shallow. Since the BL is in spec, if add 0.002" to center up the drive a bit. I wouldn't lose any sleep over being a little deep on coast. The pattern is very broad and gradual. It'll last a long time noise free

Five months later….

This is the CURRENT pinion.

You're reading off the coast side, which is what you have to do with a used gear.
The pattern is acceptable given the fact it's used.
Assuming the backlash and preload are ok, button it up
