Check this out it's an Indian jeep

mahindra Roxor, around $16k and not street legal.

the only benefit would be that its considered a sxs and not a full size 4x4. you could take it on all the 4wheeler trails that seem to be outnumbering OHV trails lately.

other than that, i think id rather spend $16k on a mint CJ2a

I think they are cool. Not 16k cool. But a few year old one under half the new price would be lots of fun.
Especially once people start dropping in old 4.0s etc to give it some real umph.

Just to be clear - nowhere does it say its a Jeep. It's just kind of implied and assumed.

well..it is jeep....

from Wiki:

Some Roxor parts are direct replacement for the CJ models.[6] Moreover, most drive-line parts are direct derivations from original Willys designs. Mahindra holds a 'grandfathered' production license dating back to 1947 for several Willys jeep designs including the later CJs.[7]

and there is a street legal version but not for the US

The grille slots bother me for some reason.

I would have one, but not for 16k.
I mean yeah, for that kind of money you could have a 15 year old ragged out Duramax

So it uses some Jeep designs and replacement parts. But the manufacturer never claims its a "Jeep".
Elio Motors also is designed to use parts from other OEMs, in their case to make it cheaper to produce and maintain.

And what does that image in the screen shot have to do with this vehicle?
Yes, in the 40s Willys Overland licensed the name to Mahindra for that line of vehicle.
That was 70 years ago.
They aren't calling THIS vehicle a Jeep nor have they used that term for a long time.

Is it "Jeepy"? Yep. Are they relying heavily on the iconic name and feel of that vehicle? Yep.
But they're not dumb enough to infringe on Fiat Chrysler's branded name and face major lawsuit.

mahindra still holds that license. they have rights to the CJ line of Jeep. Out of respect to FCA they didnt not use the 7 slot grill in the US version of the vehicle. Notice the 4 and a half slot grill instead of the over seas 7 slot?

They could badge it as a CJ if they wanted to. mahindra has held onto the rights through every owner of the the jeep brand from willys to FCA. I expect if the side by side test market goes well and they dive into street legal (as is their plan) we'll see a throwback of some sort to the CJ nomenclature. They certainly wont name it Thar.
