So I've been driving my '72 commando 40 miles daily for about 2 years now. Dealing with a bad driveshaft angle and vibration. The PO had done a SOA on it and set the pinion like it was a Double Cardon shaft, but its single joint.
Finally I decided to pull it in the garage and fix that. Also to take out some stupid lift blocks.
The welds looked like bubble gum on the spring perches. Took a plasma torch to the driver side in board weld and saw the perch come loose. A tap from the hammer and the perch fell off! The outboard weld barely penetrated. Looked at the passenger perch and hit it with a hammer 3 times and it came off!
Basically the u bolts were doing more than the welds.
Just because you have a welder doesn't mean you can fuse two pieces of metal togethers people!
CHECK YOUR JUNK for what a PO has done.
