Hey everyone,
Just moved here from Washington State and am hoping to find some family friendly groups to ride/ camp with. Haven't been out to UWharrie yet but I have been down over to the coast and out on the beach a few times with my trailer.

check out the Carolina Jeepsters. They are from your area and are a good group to wheel with. Tell them Jimmy with the Willys sent you.

Welcome aboard... I say you can never have enough jeeps.

South East Custom 4X4 is a fairl new group that started here in Fayetteville. They just had a ride at URE a few weeks ago. www.wheelindixie.com is another forum that isnot vehicle specific and have some great get togethers several times a year. There is a trail clean-up day at URE Sat (the 22nd). Could be a great way to meet some new folks and help out the trails. Where abouts in Fayetteville are you at? I am closer to Hope Mills near the corner of Hope Mills rd and Cumberland rd. What brings you to Fayettenam? I have my theories but I will let you answer up. I am a 13 /2 year A.F.'er (well I am waiting my med board decision) working on 20.

Nice Jeep set-up BTW and welcome to the site.

just to set the record straight, the Carolina Jeepsters aren't vehicle specific nor size specific. If they let my little ass Willys tag along, they are pretty tolerant. They have a yahoo groups website.I believe there is a UNF trip lined up for Memorial day .

Have the Jeepsters changed in the last 4 years? Not a real big fan if they havent.

I don't know if there has been any change or not.I really don't care. The man asked a question and I answered it.Now if he meets them and figures they aren't right for him, I figure he is a big boy and can make his own decission. Now since you brought this up,do you have a sugestion to the O.P. as to locals to get up with?

Pathfinder, welcome to the best state on the east coast and the best 4x4 Forum on the internet! Check out the URE workday thread, If you can make it next week (May 22) you will meet some of the guys and learn some of the trails also. Oh yeah, and the Hot Dogs are free to the volenteers!

Not necessarily, but information is information either way. If a shop/vendor/seller does me wrong, should I say anything to someone who is asking or, should I "figure he is a big boy and can make his own decission".

My point is, I really dont think too highly of that club. I even have several friends that are in it (they know how I feel and they know the story), and wont go with them if the rest of the clowns tag along.

Anyway, back on topic, my advice if you cant find anyone to go with, post up on several of these local boards and meet up with people there. There are always people heading to URE so you wont have a problem.

I know that Performance Off Road has trips, or you can go down there and post a flyer to see if you can get a group together. I am sure Wilsons probably does something similiar.

Rob,I like you have got friends in the club and I also know they have clowns too.I haven't wheeled with them since Haley moved on.Hell,we might have been on some of the same trail rides. Maybe your post would have been better being done in a pm to the O.P. than out here in the forums, giving him a contact or two to get up with.I've had issues with individuals in other clubs as well as a few members of the jeepsters but I've never called out the whole club on a forum.
Enough said on this.Time for a beer friend.

Now if the O.P. wants a good trip,I'm setting up a ride to Callalente July 4th weekend. Now that would be a goodun for him to go on.

no worries, fellas. I appreciate it all, good or bad...that's why I am here. Took a day trip to URE on Sat with the wife and kids and a buddy of mine that is new to the sport. We only rode the easy trails, Wolf Den and Falls Dam but had a good time and was itch'in to do more but didn't want to drag along the one stocker I had with me.

I met "Your Hot Dog Guy" and even had one of his dogs. wrote small report on JF http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f58/uharrie-national-forest-1035022/
Overall, glad to be here and glad I found a place to wheel. Now I just need to find some other families to go with.

Beware, he charges for his stories when the dogs are free!

Your always welcome to ride with me and my family. We are planning a trip to Callalantee for July 4th if you want to tag along. There will be a thread in "upcoming shortly"

ummm,if I had been there on my stocker,we would have done the harder trails. Callalente is alot of fun and we can really work your rig out up there.Game? Rox/Mud and I are gonna be there july 4th weekend.Be a long weekend for you.Hopefully Sgt. Joe D. will be there too.

Where is Callalantee, private property?
Yes it is private property. It's $11 a day and there are enough trails up there for all types of rigs, mostly side by side. It's 3.5 to 4 hours from Raleigh and it is, in my opinion, more fun than URE and has more to offer as well. Like ord.sgt.26nc said we will be there camping either on site or at the city campground. There are hotel accommodations nearby as well.
Here are some video from '07, all I have uploaded from callalantee for now.
