cherokee front axle

hey man to get back on topic. If I were you, since the waggy axle isn't to much of an upgrade to the hp30 I would get a HP44 out of a late 70s ford f150, and shorten the tubes down and run waggy axles in it. Then you have a high pinion dana 44 that is close to your 60WMS.

If you wanted to go even further you could leave it full width since it is only 65"WMS and then run a matching 9" in the rear. Do a little backspacing and your setup won't be overly wide but it will be a little wider thus making it a litte more stable. Good luck with choice.

Wagoneer front axle is correct width for what you want but they are low pinion axles. I tend to agree overkill. and only for this reason you will not gain any u joint size going from d30 to d44 usually you break 20 u joints to 1 d30 ring gear. if you want locking hubs you will probably spend as much rebuilding a d44 from a wagoneer and adding all of coil buckets and brackets for the same price as a locking hub kit for your d30. its a little more costly but have you considered an hp d44 from and f250 and have it cut down to stock width and have 60 end forgings welded on then you can get the best of both worlds the ideal ring gear size for 33s and basically bomb proof axles and u-joints for 33s. good luck with what you choose.
