Chev. Trans

[Toyota Dad]

I traded for a 96--3500 Dually 4x4 5 --454 140,000 miles

It has a Wine in either the trans are trasfer Case
At 1st was just doing it in 5th Gear--------
Now all Gears and Even with Clucth pushed in and costing
Any Ideas???

I'd try throwout bearing first, but since it does it with clutch in or out, may be something in the tranny itself.

Interested in this thread. My Dad's NV4500 in his 454 equipped '95 does this too. I know his throwout needs changed, but it's two totally different sounds. His is still in the whining in 5th only stage.

put it in low range and see if it happens 2.7 times as fast... if so, it's probably the trans.

does it do it in 4th gear? when in 4th it locks up the input shaft could be a sign of imput bearing going out if it goes away in 4th i think may be wrong been along time since ive had this problem

check the fluid in the trans and look for metal in it. if it has metal in it you prolly have bearing problems. you can do the same for the transfer case. but sounds like trans to me since it went from only doing it in 5th to doing it in all gears.

i know i have read nv4500 have input bearing problems.

and thay need special fluid also .

and lots of people found that 1/2 qt over fill realy helps the input bearing live longer.
