So I am a little confused about my 12bolt rear and 44 front. I was told when I bought them that they were a set. So I pulled the covers off both of them to check the gearing and the rear has 34 ring teeth and 10 pinion teeth, 34/10=3.4, but for the front I found 41 ring teeth and 12 pinion, 41/12=3.416. Is it possible for there to be this much of a tolerance in a matching set? Did I count wrong? calculate wrong?

its fine ... 90% of front and rear axles aren't perfectly matched . I think if the truck came with 3.08 in the back the front is 3.07 ...

x2 on it's ok, I think the rule of thumb goes that as long as both sets are within 1% your good to go.

x3, I'm runnin a 5.89 in the front and 6.00 in back because the same ratio's are available for the different axles. Another example, Ford's came factory with a 3.50/3.55 ratio's from the factory.

Generally 1% for street, 2% for trail is fine. 10% as posted above will cause binding and breakage. Yours are fine.

Think about the tire factor. If your tires were not perfectly inflated and all of them were not worn the same and there were manufacturing differences (oh, reality!) then there will be some difference between the rotational speeds of the front and rear axles. Some minor difference is OK.
