4wd Chevy 1500 (either 1997 or 2002.. cant remember).. Is it possible to remove and reinstall the 5.7 engine and 4L60E as an assembly, through the engine bay? Seems to me that would be easier if it can be done that way.. I've done FWD's that way, but unsure if the tranny with clear out from under the body (been awhile since I was under one, so can't remember clearance issues, but IFS springs to mind..)

If possible, is it quicker to pull together or separate?

Probably. I took the 22R, trans and transfer case out through the top of an '84 Toyota truck, and you've got a lot more room. Just put the rear of the trans on a floor jack and remove the cross member then lower the jack and roll forward as you pull the engine up and out.

Ive done plenty of chevy trucks this way...if is 5.7 its not an 02....I'd pull the radiator first though...

Ended up pulling tranny first.. I may put it back together this way though. It is a 5.7... still not sure of the year and I was sitting under the hood even. I'll let yall know how I make out when I go to set it in.
