Hi guys, I have became the proud owner of a 74 chevy 1/2 ton pickup with a rebuilt 350, edelbrock performer intake, webber carb, HEI, headers and I dont know what else. Anyway, while tuning it up I noticed the dipstick tube is broken off about a half inch into the block. Can this be fixed by dropping the oil pan and push/pulling it out and replacing with a new one? Or is there more to it than that?
I'd like to use this truck to tow the jeep sometimes and i need to keep the oil in it...

You can either drop the pan and push it through or push it through into the pan and try to get a small magnet into the drain hole and fish it out. This would save you the trouble of pulling the pan. If you push it through while it is still full of oil you might get lucky when you drain it and it might come out with the oil. Also you might try to get a small pick into the hole and pull it out.

I would drop the pan and punch it through.
Then just press the new one in.
if its a 4wd it is a 1-2 hour job.
if its a 2wd....Well you are going to be unbolting motor mounts and lifting the truck to get the an off. Not hard just tedious

You do not have to take the pan off. you should beable to run a E Z out in the hole or a tap then pull it out.if you need more info. p.m. me.
