chevy 350 problems

a buddy of mine has a 77 chevy with a 350 in it. it starts and idles pretty good, but when he puts it in drive and it is under a load it does not want to run to good. any ideas? possibly timing??

Could be the timing, or the advance not working. Could also be time for a tune up. I.e. plugs, wires cap and rotor. Could also be a carb issue. (Plugged up jets etc.)
