If you're going to tell me that you don't think a truck should have a body lift, don't bother. I know those opinions, and agree with some vehicles....aka wrangler, no more than 1.25"

But this is a full size 86 chevy shortbed that sees more sand and mud than rocks. I'm debating between a 2 or 3 inch body lift. Who out there has expierence with this and any opinions.

Will i need to adjust linkage or will it still work?
what will I have to do other than fan shroud relocation?

does anybody know what will need to be adjusted or if i will be able to get by with either a 2 or 3 inch body lift???

give a little more detail on the spec's of the truck. Eng, tranny (auto or std), are you planning a engine, tranny or x-fer case custom swap. are you just looking for tire clearence? personally, if it was me, i would go with the 3in. just for mud and sand, your gonna be doing the same with a 3in as you would a 2in. why not go ahead and get that extra inch. just my $0.02

linkage will need to be played with as will steering column.
And you need fab skills, better than 50% chance the body mount especially rear cab mounts will strip out in the tub and you will be cutting and welding in new ones.

you'll have to drill the plastic rivets out of the steering shaft to allow it to lengthen, and then re-pin it after the lift is installed, also you'll have to lengthen the gas filler hoses, I welded extensions onto the stock one and cut the hoses down to work, for the fan shroud I just trimmed till it fit, you'll have to weld an extension onto the tranny linkage and readjust the transfer case linkage, don't forget to disconnect those linkages before lifting it and just be careful with all your electrical making sure none of it gets to tight

ok thanks for the info K10.....i've decided just to get out the saw a trim it to fit the tires I end up getting. 38's will fit trimmed with 2" lift right? or at least 35's

I run 39s on 4" lifft, heavily trimmed

I had a 81 Fullsize Blazer, i had a 3in body lift and ran 35's with minumal rubbing in the front. The only thing that i had to change was just cut and weld an extension on the shifter. i dont think there is much change from my model to your. A 3in. is the way to go i think.
