Bad vibration in my 98 s10 2wd when coasting or cruising up to 50 or so, fine when I give it the gas. I'm assumeing the bearing/isolator is worn out as I've never changed it. Do I have to pull the driveshaft out of the auto trans. to replace the thing? or can i just undo the driveshaft at the rearend and unbolt the bearing and hang the front shaft w some straps while I change the bearing out??

oops wrong forum ment to put it in tech. :eek:ops:

I figured as much but did'nt want to make a mess. I guess i'll park the truck on my downhill driveway and jack it up even further w my drive on ramps to help keep the fluid in w a bag w ruba band. Thanks a whole lot Lee, I might have damaged sumpin if I tried to cheese it off!!!

Chocked and blocked! I would hate to see me mashed by a truck too! but the dam thing will not come off. I beat the support off and cut the rubber off the bearing, even soaked it w Aero-Krol been smakin it w a 4lb hammer and punch w no luck, cant get a good amgle w the bearing sheild on there. My pullers arms are way to short to use it, I guess Ill have to use a propane torch to try to heat it, that's all the heat I got. No way would it come out w/o pulling the whole unit and parked like I am no trans leak anyway. I guess I could get it pressed off/on for $20 or sumpin??

I appreciate the advice and would probly come by but your too far away. I ran out of daylight and patience so I'll try again in the morning. I'm not even sure that it's the problem now, the bearing is smooth the rubber a bit cracked/rotted and would flex a bit before I destroyed it, it might be the double cardiman? joint or something besides the driveline o_O a Friend told me to go to Stone HV and have them make a 1 piece instead of rebuilding mine if the support replacement don't fix it, It might be cheaper! Thanks again for trying to help a poor diy-er who knows enough to be dangerous!

Do you have a cut off wheel? If so cut the outer race/cage and bearings out of the way. Then carefully cut about 3/4 of the way through the inner race in two places across from eachother. Give it a good smack with the hammer and chisel again and it should pop right apart. Clean up the shaft and drive the new bearing in place using a piece of pipe against the inner race.

A hacksaw is about all i've got. My friend said he used an air chisel to knock one off a Ford and mine seems to have a spacer? lockring? to hold the bearing tight and he said I might be able to split it w a hammer and chisel to get mine off. I think I'll pay a shop to press it off/on. Thanks for the advice NC-V that would probly work too.

$30 bucks at the machine shop was the best I could find locally. It seems to have fixed the bad shaking though now I can tell I need new tires also, they are to worn to ballance again IMO.
