Chevy front drive shaft - to spin or not to spin

On my '94 K1500, the front drive shaft is locked with the front axle and is turning all the time even though the shifter is not in 4x4. I thought nothing locks up until the TC is shifted into 4x4 mode and the electric actuator on the front diff locks the diff???? I noticed it when the front wheels were on the ground and I tried to turn the shaft. Locked up solid. Is this correct? What in the TC and/or diff is being prematurely worn out by this??

The 2001 S10 Blazer seems to be the same but the '93 S15 Jimmy driveshaft is not locked and turning.

That's perfectly normal and you have nothing to worry about.

You dont have lockouts, so it has to turn the front diff in turn, turning the driveshaft.
