'77 chevrolet k10, 350 and auto, factory rochester 2 bbl carb
Got the truck in a trade, drove it an hour home and some around town for the next few weeks. then the truck sat for a few weeks without starting. Next time i tried to start it the carb started flooding, and bad enough to send fuel out the overflow hole in front and put fuel in the oil. I took the carb off and just kinda looked it over and blew it out a little. put it back together and it ran fine till the next time i tried to crank it.
I replaced the factory one with a used edelbrock thinking it was the carb but the first time i tried to start it same thing, its flooding with the edelbrock. I just bought a rebuild kit for the rochester and im going to put it on and see if it fixes but other than the seals being completely fubared it looked pretty decent, float was in spec. Now im wandering how it could do it with both carbs but the edelbrock is used even though the guy i bought it from said it ran when it was taken off.
Now im not real good with carbs so i thought i would throw this out there and get some opinions on what it could be. Ive had a few thoughts on it but not real sure.
1) could it be the fuel pump? its the factory pump on the side of the block. Never really saw a fuel pump go bad and pump to much fuel but just a thought.
2) Could it need a fuel pressure regulator? Thought is though why would it run fine but all of a sudden need a regulator?
3) could the tank be building pressure and causing to much flow? I took the gas cap off and tried it again but the same thing, but i only turned the motor over a few seconds.
Just thought i would throw the delima out there and see what is said cause again im not much of a carb guy so any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
