Ok. Just finished my TBI up on my 84 CJ. Yes Ron the same TBI I bought from you almost 4 years ago. Alot has happened but now back on Jeep. Anyway when I crank the Jeep up starts up and runs great. When I turn the switch to off it keeps on running. So I went and bought a new ignition switch and changed it out. Still won't cut off so I bought a new key switch and changed it. Now I now this is a simple swap, 1 red wire from Jeep that has 12 volts when key is on and 1 purple wire that is when key is in crank position hooked to light blue wire on Jeep. That's pretty much it right? So I double checked and the 12 volt when key is on has 12 volts when key is on and doesn't have 12 volts when key is off. Any ideas would be great, I have been trouble shooting for 3 days now and got no where.
Thanks Jay

Are you running a electric fan on the radiator straight wired to battery key on power when this is happening? If so the fan will back feed enough voltage like a small alternator to keep the engine running. If this is the case you need use a relay to cut the power or use a toggle switch.

You need to make sure the power to the coil is getting cut when you kill the switch. It sounds like you made a wiring snafu somewhere and it's on a constant hot circuit.

Of course, the fuel pump would need to be too, as would the computer. Hmm...something got crossed in the wiring. Had to. I bet you all that's sitting there live, and when you turn the key, it just starts the reaction going.

unplug the alternator and see if it will die. if it doesn't then the ignition wires crossed like stated above.
just unplug the connector on top

Ok Thanks everybody. It was the alternator. Thanks for saving my Jeep and some of my sanity, what's left anyway, LOL  :shaking:

summit has kits to stop the back feed or a one wire alternator will do the same with less wires.
alot of times it's just the two wires need to be switched.
