Chevy transmission problems

I have a buddy with a 92 chevy with 5 speed maunual tranny. It will go in gear fine, but nothing happens. Sometimes when you let out on the clutch, it makes a real bad rattle sound, but will not do it all the time. I'm going to pull it tomorow, but was wondering if it might be pressure plate/clutch issue or transmission. Any thoughts?

sounds like either a clutch disc/pressure plate problem or possibly a hydraulic problem. is there fluid in the clutch master cylinder and does the slave move when you press clutch pedal? does the pedal feel ok?

Could also be a broken shaft in the tranny but more than likely a clutch issue

Clutch pedal feels fine and is working...I hope for his sake it is just the clutch/pressure plate. Thats alot easier on the pocket!!
