My wife lost her keys at the mall. She armed the alarm with the remote before she went into the mall. Every time you get in and out the alarm goes off and you can only manually unlock the doors. I have tried to clear it through OBDII which didn't work, tried a crazy suggestion off the net that said lock and unlock passenger side and I have also disconnected the negative terminal. Still no luck. Alarm goes off if I put the horn relay back in. Anybody have any suggestions?

Our car required unlocking the pass door with the key.

what year is it?

Sounds more like an aftermarket alarm with horn honk rather than a siren.... if that is the case look for a black box under the dash. pull the fuse on the unit, should be back about 3 inches from the box.

If it's factory...take it to the dealer. What kind of car, and what model year?

2003 Chevy Venture Minivan and I am pretty sure that it is not an aftermarket alarm. It has a factory looking remote. I bought it used from a dealer but I suppose that it could have had one installed. Even if it was an aftermarket I disconnected the battery so I assume that would be as good as pulling a fuse. Unlocking it with a key, and opening the door is what sets it off..

If it still goes off with the battery diconnected it is most def an aftermarket with a battery back up....

I suppose but who would put an aftermarket alarm into a rental minivan that already has a factory alarm. If so it must also use the factory LED on the radio as a flash indicator. I should have probably touched the positive and negative cables together when I disconnected the battery. I'd do it now but the battery is a PITA to get to.

So basically what I seeing here is that the alarm is re arming itself every time you lock the doors even without the key fob? The deal with pulling the fuse is to deactivate the aftermarket (if it is) alarm permanently. BMW comes with a battery backup on all it's alarms. Never seen an aftermarket one with a battery backup. My Toyota (If I forget the key fob) will set the alarm off as soon as you open the door but will go off when starting the car and not reset again until the key fob is used to arm it. Get your fuse diagram (or find one on line) and pull the fuse for the factory alarm and see if that works.

The battery back uip is an option, all the major players have them, DEI etc etc.

i wouldnt just pull the fuse if its aftermarket.....cause if it has a backup battery it sure as hell is gonna have a starter kill.....
pop the lower dash cover off and look for the high current wires coming from the ignition switch, if theres an aftermarket itll be tapped there. i
if nothing is there get me the year and ill tell you what wire to ground out on the oem alarm to keep it from ever arming again

FYI and FWIW I bought a new BCM off eBay for $20 and new key and key fob. Had hardware store grind key after a little initial objection. Key worked after I programmed it using the one key we had left. Plugged in BCM and then programmed fob. Everything back to normal. Paid dealer $88 to tell me BCM was bad. The quoted me $300 more to fix it.

You needed to reprogram your BCM, "Arming and Disarming the Content Theft-Deterrent System" to Mode3 (Standard Arm/Disarm with fob, key, lock but.), which is was in Mode2 (FOB Arm/Disarm only). Reprogramming instructions on page 2-25 of Owner's Manual.
Enter Programming Mode

Perform the following steps in order to enter the programming mode:
  1. The optional content theft deterrent system must be disarmed.
  2. With the ignition in the OFF position, remove the BCM PRGRM fuse, close the driver door.
  3. Turn the ignition to the ACC position.
  4. Listen to the number of chimes. The chimes indicate the BCM type (2, 3, or 4) and therefore the features that may be personalized.
Content Theft Deterrent Arming/Disarming

Continue with the following steps in order to personalize the content theft deterrent arming/disarming:
  1. Insert a second key into any door lock cylinder.
  2. Rotate the key to the UNLOCK position and hold for 1 second. Count the number of chimes in order to determine the current mode.
  3. Rotate the key again or press the Panic button on vehicles equipped with keyless entry in order to advance to the next mode. The chime will sound the number of times equivalent to the mode.
  4. Continue to rotate the key or press the Panic button until you reach the desired mode.
  5. Remove the key from the door lock cylinder.
Good luck
