If they're dug in and itchin awefull try running scalding hot as you can stand water on them in the shower or just your anckles under the tub faucet if they're ate up. 3+/- mins. always gives me temperary relief for a while and feels great on the itch, repeat as needed till they're gone.

Damn that's what got me, my left cheek too! Didn't think it looked like a bug bite.

Good to hear I wasn't the only one. I thought poison ivy had finally started affecting me. Good to hear I'm still immune to the stuff!

pretty sure I got some chigger bites among the poison ivy rash. Our "parking spot" for the A-class race was definitely infested with poison ivy, probably chiggers and all sorts of other swamp/mud creatures.

They tore me up awful down there about 6-7 years ago! It was in July too I think. I must have been sitting right on a nest or something in my chair. NOTHING worked to relieve the itching and burning. I tried numerous things. The itching lasted about 10-14 days or so IIRC. I've never been bothered by them at DPG in the spring or fall, just the mid summer. That place is infested with them though.

I've always had good luck w Benadryl, lots of thick coats of it. The clear stuff.

That, and staying the fawk away from chiggers...

I would do a 3 step process that seemed to provide some relief- hold a match up close (similar to the hot water), then scratch the bites until the skin broke, then cover in nail polish. At that point the nail polish stung the most, but the itch seemed to go away. Man I hate those thins.

I did some reading on chiggers last night from an Army publication. They said to take 10-12 3" square black pieces of cardboard and lay in the area. Within a minute or two if chiggers are present, they will congregate on the paper. Interesting test to see if you are going to get your arse ate up!

Turpentine works great, rub it on your pants legs, sleeves, etc. As a kid i used to lightly rub kerosene into my clothes before heading down the pasture to go fishing.

I actually did this in the military at Bragg and it worked.

Clear fingernail polish has always worked for me.

Got these solo canoe camping on the Roanoke River NWR downstream from Williamston on a permit deer hunt. They evedenly crawled in my tent and I woke up like this w just a few below my waistline. I was gonna stay another night but this shit sent me packing that day. They also are fond of armpits and mine were ate up, just a big red ball of bites, that was the worst of it all, I had to hold my arms out like in the pics for several days to make it almost bearable and I actually felt like i had the flu or something for a few days also, fever, aches, fatigue etc.

I don't think those are chiggers. I think what yall got was crotchodiles. :D

Just saw this thread. My wife and niece are both eat up with these things. She'll be happy to see that they were not the only ones.
