Chiropractors: real deal or a bunch of quacks?

I think there is some validity for their role as pain relievers. I know a few people with auto accident injuries that swear by them. The one I went to was definitely a quack though. He told me if I got a flu or cold to come see him and he'd make me better faster than going to a regular doctor. I LOL'd. Didn't know popping my neck and back could help cure a virus. Guess that's what you get when you find a Chiropractor on Groupon though...

^^^He may have been talking about reflexology...different pressure/sensation points across the body that unblock toxin channels. Sounds kooky, I'm sure...but, again, I'm a believer. My guy has an electrode he applies to my sinuses if he hears me sniffle or a little stuffy...I'll be able to breathe when he's done, and I usually clear up shortly there after.

Gets back to the alignment issue... if your lymphatic system can circulate and drain like it should, a lot of toxins/waste would be removed from your body, you'd have fewer problems with inflammation (joint and muscle pain, illness), and your immune response would be much better/faster. Walking (a lot of it) and associated the swinging of arms and legs is a good way to do that.

In a nutshell.... like any other profession, there are good ones and bad ones. I have seen my share of both over the past 40+ years. The one I use today is among the top three I have known, and I have been seeing him for the past 15-20 years. Some of you will remember that one year ago this month I had back surgery due to a herniated disc and nerve damage, and at that time I was very much afraid I might never walk right again. My Chiropractor had quickly determined that what was going on with my lower back was not the same as what he would normally adjust. He promptly sent me to see a Neurosurgeon, and also recommended one to me. Now, a year later, my back is actually better than it has been for many, many years. I still see the same Chiropractor, regularly, but it is usually for stiff neck joints and upper back discomfort. He still keeps a close eye on my lower-back, but the truth is that it just doesn't seem to bother me any more. So, are Chiropractors any good????... I thank God I found the one I have, but there are also some rotten eggs in the basket... ask your friends and neighbors. If a Chiropractor's office is so busy that it's hard to get an appointment he/she is probably a good one. If the waiting room is empty and they are just patiently waiting for you to walk in I would suggest running... bad back or not. Hope this helps. :)

....THIS........my Chropractors office has seating for about 20 and usually 10+ peeps waiting every time I visited, They were very efficient and had me in and out in about 30 mins. They had a chalkboard of new patient names that was full of new names every day and an overflowing billboard of testimonials from his satisfied/grateful patients also w new ones every day.

After three car wrecks my wife has to go to the chiropractor monthly/bi monthly to get things back in order.
Most of us sit or stand in a static position way too much of the time. Most of us need a better strength-to-weight ratio in our shoulder girdle and core.
This, she works for John Deere and spends 8-10 hours a day lookin down which just aggervates her neck problem. She cant take a lot of bouncing around or jarring, hasnt been in the mountains in about 4 years.I personally have never been,no particular reason why not, just never thought I needed it.I can tell a difference in her mood and movement after shes been.

It's been almost two years since my last trip to the chiropractor (my last car accident was 2 1/2 years ago) and I'd love to get back in there. I could fall asleep on the traction table for about an hour. My chiro gave me quite a few pointers on daily muscle exersizes to do at home on my free time that I still use. My last accident involved having 12 vertebrae knocked out of alignment from my lower shoulder blades all the way up, worst being around the T-4&5. On top of that, I have a not completely healed left clavicle injury that's caused much chaos as well. Combine the two injuries together and it makes for a rough recovery. Even after the last of 36 trips my chiropractor told me that to fully heal I'd have to dedicate at least 3 nights a week for several years to repair all the damage. I still have spells where the muscles in my shoulder blades will tense up and try to pull the bones with it and it flat out hurts. Cold weather makes it way worse.

I go about once a month or as needed, especially after I race or get into something crazy. It help me a lot but my guy is very straight up and honest.
I also have an inversion table at home that I hang from a couple times a week. It helps my lower back when I'm hunched over for hours at a time at work.
